My favorite things – January edition

Sharing 5 of my favorite things for this month

Happy 2019!!

Took some time off for the holidays to be with my family. How were your Christmas and New Year’s celebrations? To be very honest, mine wasn’t the best this year. Greg had to work on and off throughout the week, he went to the hospital to catch a few babies, and then we were sick on New Years Eve. YUCK! Truth be told – SO GLAD that school started back up today and I’m back into a normal schedule!! I am a schedule fanatic. Planners – oh yea!! Ask any of my friends and they’ll tell you I am a planner person through and through!! I’m actually still waiting for my new planner to come in – the one I ordered before wasn’t working like I wanted it to so I’m trying another one. Looking forward to getting the mail! ๐Ÿ™‚

Trying something new for 2019

So, I thought it would be fun to share with y’all some of my favorite things each month. If you’re old school like me, you remember Oprah back in the day would release her favorite things every so often – and usually give them away to her audience. Always wanted to be in her audience, but never got the chance – BUMMER! ๐Ÿ™‚ I often get a kick out of seeing other people’s favorite blog posts and thought I’d give it a try this year. It was so fun trying to figure out what I’d choose! Without further ado….. may I introduce you to the inaugural edition of my Favorite Things! ๐Ÿ™‚

#1. Antique Candle Works

These are my new absolute favorite candles. I found them from another blogger, Erin at Cotten Stem (http://www.cottonstem.com. These candles are AH-MAZ-ING!! The peppermint scent and pumpkin spice are my all time favorites. You just have to see my counters to see how obsessed with these candles I am!! Go and visit their website and see how many different scents they have! (http://www.antiquecandleworks.comย ย They are a small shop in Indiana which makes it all the more appealing to me to buy their products. I love supporting small shops like theirs.

#2 Charles Wysocki Puzzles

I NEVER thought I’d be one of those people that would love to do puzzles – I have turned into my mother!! ๐Ÿ™‚ In fact, I HATED doing puzzles growing up! Greg and his family were avid “puzzlers” but I still never really got into them until a few years back. I have no clue what changed – besides getting older! – but now i LOVE doing them! We usually have one going through the winter months. So my question to you is…..do you have a “system” to putting puzzles together? I am afraid I do – and if it doesn’t go “just so” I have a little toddler moment of being pissy and then I have to walk and tell myself “it’s only a puzzle you stupid!!!”

The system we use to put a puzzle together

Step 1 – turn over each of the pieces and sort them {edge pieces, house pieces, road pieces, flower pieces – you get the idea} Step 2 – find any of the pieces with the American flag and set aside. Step 3 – put flag pieces together first – always first (I have NO CLUE why – just a little OCD :):)) Step 4 – put togehter the edge pieces. Step 5 – word pieces are next since they’re the simplest. Step 6 – attack each pile of sorted pieces and then Step 7 – leave all the hard areas to Greg. ๐Ÿ™‚ It works for us! ๐Ÿ™‚

I pick up most of our puzzles from our local Meijer grocery store here or try Amazon Prime hereย or directly to their website.

#3 – Stationary cards and colored pens

One of the things I want to do better this year is writing notes to people. It’s a tradition that has slowly faded away but who doesn’t like getting “real mail”?!?!?! I mean – you go through your pile of junk mail, bills, and coupons and when an occassional handwritten note or card comes – which one do y’all open first? If you’re me…..the personal mail totally! ๐Ÿ™‚ I like being able to encourage people and sending something in the mail to someone God lays on my heart is one way to do just that. I am a sucker for a good quality box of cards. My go-to is from Hobby Lobby.ย  Or another set I really like from Hobby Lobby is this one.

Making someone’s day is a blessing

One of the ways I try and figure out who needs a card each week is when I’m sitting in church on Sundays and there is a quiet moment, I ask God to show me who He wants me to send one to that week. I know that sounds really trite and maybe silly – but I’ve seen it happen time and time again that God lays someone on my heart and I send something to her and the next time I see her she tells me that the timing was perfect. I LOVE seeing how God works that way!!

#4 – Lysa TerKeurst’s book Uninvited

This is one of those books where I could read over and over again and pick up something different every. single. time. She is an amazing writer. The way that God has gifted her in words is amazing. Some of the things she writes I think “HOW did you climb in my heart and my head and know EXACTLY what I am feeling!” She is one of my favorite authors. Another great author I love to read is Max Lucado. I think my mom has every single one of his books – yup…..just realized that i AM becoming my mom!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

What is this book about?

This book goes into depth about the feelings of insignificance, insecurity, and feeling unlovable. The majority of my pages are dog-earred (by the way….where does that term come from?!? is it even the right term? :)) You can grab this book anywhere, but if you’re like me – you’d use your Amazon prime here and get it in 2 days!! ๐Ÿ™‚

#5 – Mini whisk

SUCH a strange favorite item this is but bear with me here….I use this little bugger EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I have bought about a dozen of them because my whole family uses these little whippersnappers! They’re just cheap little dollar store whisks (in fact I bought out our local dollar store of these guys this past Christmas for my friend’s Favorite Item Christmas exchange party!)

What would you use this little thing for?

They are so many multi use little things, but mostly we mix our hot chocolate, chai tea, or creamer with a little coffee drinks with these hot little tools! It’s only about 6 inches long – I should have taken a picture of it inside a mug to give you a better idea of the size. Either way – head over to your dollar store’s kitchen aisle and grab yourself a few – unless of course your local….then you’re gonna have to wait for a re-stock :):):) If your dollar stores don’t carry them – try these here.

So there you have it…..January’s edition of my favorite things. I wish I could be like Oprah and send y’all a box of each of these items – but reality sets in real quick and I have to be satisfied with being able to give you a point in the right direction to find each of them! ๐Ÿ™‚ How about you? What are your favorite “have to have” items around the house? Anything you can’t live without or would be the first thing you grab in case of a fire (besides of course your family! :)) Share them in the comments below! Would love to hear the big and small items y’all love!
