The MOST AMAZING chocolate chip cookie you have ever tasted!!!

Something just wasn’t right!

So I woke up this morning to the realization that something was wrong in my kitchen. I didn’t quite know what it was at first – just a feeling of “off-ness” settled over me. As I walked into my kitchen, I didn’t see anything out of place. The typical cups in the sink that weren’t loaded into the dishwasher the night before. The finished puzzle on our desk that Greg had finished the night before. Sawyer’s (our schnoodle) toys sprawled haphazzardly around the kitchen floor. But nothing major was sticking out to me, then I saw it. Sitting on the counter…

 

OUR COOKIE JAR WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY!!!

Not a crumb was left!! Well….to be honest, there were a few :). I don’t know about you, but there is just something about having fresh baked cookies in the cookie jar when the kids come home from school. I don’t know what it is, but I always feel like a “better mom” when it’s full. Silly I know. Good thing I was in the mood to do some baking. Easily my most favorite cookie recipe is the traditional chocolate chip cookie.

Get ready for your mind to be BLOWN AWAY! 🙂

But this isn’t ANY ordinary chocolate chip cookie (where have you heard THAT before!!). Seriously, this is hands down THE BEST recipe for chocolate chips cookies that I have made. Ask our kids….they’ll tell ya. The number of times I hear the cover coming off the cookie jar after filling it with these cookies goes through the roof!! It’s weird I know, but I LOVE the “ting” sound of the lid coming off! I love making our family happy – and one way I have found out how to do that is with these cookies.

I’m going to share with you my recipe today and give you a few hints that I’ve learned after many years of baking these. Here are your ingredients.  Most of them you’ll already have in your pantry except perhaps the Crisco.  If you don’t, just double the butter amount (but the Crisco is the secret to these being AH-MAZING!!):

 

A few tips before baking…

A tip to these ingredients is to use COLD butter. Many recipes call for softened or room temperature butter, but I’ve found using cold makes the cookies “stick together” better. They don’t crumble as much as if you use softened butter. The other secret is when it asks for shortening – use Crisco sticks (I use the butter flavored ones). This probably is SO much worse for you health wise, but you’ll take the chance once you make them! 🙂

First beat together the sugars, butter, vanilla, and shortening together. Let me admit something to you at this point….when y’all mix these together….who admits to trying a little sample? I mean seriously….have you ever tried it?!?!?! Unfortunately, I have…..too many times….but it’s that good!! I suppose one would have to be a die hard sugar addict in order to enjoy this mixture – but if you are, and you try it….you’ll be hooked! 🙂

Next, add all the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

Using a cookie scoop drop dough onto a cookie sheet.  I also have learned the fine art of using parchment paper.  Guys….game changer when it comes to baking!  I don’t think I have burned a cookie since using parchment paper…..well there was that ONE time when I didn’t hear the buzzer go off and I completely forgot about the last pan in the oven.  Bad memory…..worse smell! :):)

Let me share another secret that I actually learned from a friend of mine, Andrea Dekker.  She is a fabulous blogger and an amazing baker/cook.  In her blog, AndreaDekker.com, she shares that she places several more chocolate chips or M&M’s depending on her recipe, on the top of the cookies.  It makes them look more gourmet like! 🙂  Everytime I make cookies I always think about her suggestion and have, in fact, had people not believe me when I say they were home made! 🙂  Thanks, Andrea for that tip!!

Bake these little buggers for about 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees.  Let them cool slightly on the pan before putting them on a cooling rack. 

And there you go, my friends…..THE BEST CHOCOLATE COOKIES your mouth will ever experience!  Try them and see for yourself! 🙂

INGREDIENTS:

  • ½ C. Sugar
  • ½ C. Brown Sugar, packed
  • ⅓ C. Butter, cold
  • ⅓ C. shortening – I use Butter flavored Crisco sticks
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ C. flour
  • ½ tsp. Baking soda
  • 2 tsp. Baking powder
  • ½ tsp. Salt
  • 1 pkg. Chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Mix sugars, butter, shortening, vanilla, and egg
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.  Drop teaspoonful of dough onto greased cookie sheet.  
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until light brown.
  • Cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet

    I made this recipe last week, except I made it into a cake (9 inch round cake) and I baked it for ~30 minutes, it came out great! Instead of cinnamon buttercream frosting I made cinnamon cream cheese frosting and it was incredible!! The cream cheese frosting was the perfect match for the pumpkin flavor–I would highly recommend!
